Every year my office assists thousands of 8th District residents access available federal agency resources. While my staff is available year round to help you with the IRS, the Social Security office, the Veterans Administration, and other federal agencies, we’re making a special effort to connect you with these agencies. I want to invite you to my Federal Government Open House this coming weekend, Saturday, June 26th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Shah center of McHenry County College in McHenry.

This will be the final event of its type for the year, so if you missed our previous government open house events and are interested in attending, please consider stopping by.

Representatives from the agencies listed below will be on hand to offer information and, where appropriate, start a new case on site for any constituent seeking assistance. For homeowners who are having difficulty making mortgage payments, information on the federal Homeowner Affordability and Stability Plan will be available.

Here’s a few of the agencies that will be available:
For information on tax credits and other tax issues – the IRS
For concerns related to Medicare and Social Security benefits – the Social Security Administration
For questions on health insurance reform – the Illinois Dept. of Insurance
For concerns related to veterans benefits – the Illinois Dept. of Veterans’ Affairs and the Lake County Veterans’ Assistance Commission
For help with housing and foreclosure issues – the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development and mortgage counseling agencies
For help with student aid – the U.S. Dept. of Education and the Illinois Student Assistance Commission
For help with unemployment benefits - The Illinois Dept. of Employment Security
Representatives from these agencies may have limited access to their files, so please be prepared to provide contact information and bring relevant documentation for follow up.
