Village of Palatine Passes Local Cap and Trade Ordinance
 from-Palatine Tea Party

(Palatine, IL) – The Palatine Village Council is following in the footsteps of the Obama Administration moving his progressive agenda forward at the local level. On December 13, 2010 the village council unanimously passed its own version of Cap and Trade Ordinance without the “trade“. This would generate an additional $900,000 to offset the Village of Palatine’s 2011 budget shortfall. This “new” Electric Utility Tax is based upon consumption of electricity. The taxes are collected by the utility company and remitted to the Village. Those using less electricity will pay less. Village officials have said, “see an electricity tax as a stable source of revenue even in poor economic climates”.

It appears the electric company will invoice this additional tax, collect the tax, remit the tax back to the Village and perform all the additional recordkeeping involved with this type of arrangement. Unless ComEd is performing all these additional administrative services without a fee, the taxpayer will somehow be stuck with the cost as well. Either the Village will pay this new fee to ComEd at the cost to the taxpayer or ComEd will somehow pass the cost onto the consumer (also the taxpayer).

Those on social security received no COLA increase and this “new” Electric Utility Tax will impact everyone that uses electric. Those hit the hardest will include those on fixed incomes, unemployed and low income families.
