THE GREAT AWAKENING

The Great Awakening-In God We Trust

A Checklist for GOTV Activists

The heaviest lifting of GOTV occurs during the last two weeks of any election campaign. While there is much work to be done before then, the period between October 16th and November 2nd will require the biggest time commitment from activists and volunteers. If possible, schedule time off from work to get out the vote. The more preparation you can do before the mad rush right before the election, the easier it will be for you to get out the Vote on November 2nd. The following is a simple checklist of things you can be doing now to get ready for GOTV.

 September

*****First and foremost, Register People to Vote. Find out if there are voter registration drives going on that are sponsored by a group (or groups) you support.

Research candidates and their position on the issues that are important to you Go to Illinois Candidates forum tab above

Unless you are working with an existing campaign, develop Talking Points for use during GOTV

Recruit. Begin talking to your family and friends and branch out from there. . Make sure everyone you are working with is registered to vote.

Get commitments. Develop a shortlist of people who you can count on to help with GOTV  Taling Points Discussion to come

Collaborate. Working through the THE GREAT AWAKENING, connect with other like-minded groups or individuals to begin working together. You can also work with individual campaigns and their staffs as a volunteer.

Coordinate.  One purpose of the THE GREAT AWAKENING is to serve as a tool for individuals, activists and groups to coordinate their ground game for November 2nd.

Gather Voter Data. Unless you are working directly with a campaign, this may take a little more time to obtain in your state, so begin working to get voter data information for GOTV early.

Finalize GOTV Plans. Hold meetings to delegate tasks, map precincts and/or districts.

Identify polling places. Develop a list of polling places in the district you are working GOTV.

Refine Talking Points. News and events change on a daily basis, be sure your talking points are relevant with what may be occurring in the weeks and days leading up to the election.

Identify voters with special needs. If there are persons with special needs (friends, family, or others), identify them early to ensure that they have transportation to the polls.

Coordinate transportation. If you have a number of persons with special needs, use the Concord Project’s state page to see if there are others with transportation needs and, if necessary, set up a van pool.

Utilize your e-mail contacts. Send out reminders to your contacts of the upcoming election and the importance of voting.

Assess races and assets. If certain races are ‘safe’ (one way or another), and your talents can be used in another area, be willing to spend time in another district or even another state.

Late October through November 2nd

Walk Precincts, Work Phone Banks, Get Out the Vote. Keep your team engaged. Make it fun and try to not get burned out. It’s hard work, but you can do it!

LETS MAKE IT A PSUNAMI IN NOVEMBER!!!!!!
