Dear Illinois Patriot,

Being a citizen of Illinois, you know that our state has a reputation for corrupt politics.  Many in power at every level work very hard to maintain that reputation.

As proof, consider that the 60th vote for raising your income taxes by 66% came from Kathleen Moore, a retired school teacher, who was appointed to serve for the final days of the Lame Duck session.

The legality of Kathleen Moore's appointment is now being scrutinized, as the notary and witness to the signing were the same person - one Mr. John Fritchey - who happened to be the very Representative vacating the seat.

The evidence of impropriety goes even further.  Ann Williams, the winner of the seat in the November election, should have been appointed, as is the traditional action in these vacancy situations.  But her lack of support for the income tax increase appears to have removed her from the shortlist of choices.

Time and time again, our legislators prove that if given the opportunity, they will use any and all means available to stick it to those they claim to represent.

As I've mentioned before, Illinois' budget woes do need to be addressed, but raising taxes on the citizens and businesses in our state was not the answer.  Significant spending cuts, serious pension reform, and breaking the stranglehold the unions have on the state are the only viable solutions to our problems.

Illinois legislators do not have a revenue problem; they have a spending problem.

Considering the track record of legislators in Springfield, we can almost count on them to increase their spending by more than the 2% the new law allows them before the tax increase would be automatically rolled back.

But waiting for that inevitability would only ensure further destruction to Illinois' financial situation and the businesses and families who need serious solutions now.

That is why the Illinois Campaign for Liberty is going to fight for a repeal of the Lame Duck tax increases.

Days after the 97th General Assemblymen were sworn in, HB 0175, a bill to repeal the tax increase, was introduced in the House.

Please contact your Representative and tell him or her to stand up for their constituents and cosponsor HB 0175 as soon as they return to Springfield next week.

This is not going to be an easy fight.  With Michael Madigan, John Cullerton, and 4-County-Quinn still in charge, we need your help if we are going to make this happen.  Once you have contacted your Representative, please ask your Illinois friends and relatives to do the same.
