CHQ Poll: Conservatives agree with DeMint's hard-line stance on debt limit
CHQ - Senator Jim DeMint is unequivocal: no raising of the debt ceiling until we have first passed a balanced budget amendment.  "I couldn't support a presidential candidate" who doesn't agree on that, he adds.  "We should go to the mat with Obama."  Conservatives agree-overwhelmingly so.

DeMint to Romney: Mandates aren't right at the state level, either

The State Column - Senator Romney plans to visit South Carolina next week to "explore" his presidential campaign.  Sen. Jim DeMint probably will not be his biggest fan during that visit.  "We have learned," says DeMint, "that this idea of a mandate, of a particular type of government plan, is not the way to go, whether it is at the national level or at the state level."

Mitch Daniels is not only boring-he's a wussy "nice guy"

American Thinker (blog) - There he goes again.  Having previously called for a truce on social issues, he now tells the Ripon Society that the GOP should avoid "wedge issues."  That means the entire campaign debate must conform to whatever the Democrats will tolerate.  With Romney stalled, it's easy to see why Daniels is the new hope of the go-along GOP Establishment .

Grading Governor Pawlenty

National Review Online - Yes, the possible presidential candidate got an A one year from the Cato Institute, in its ratings of the nation's governors.  But he doesn't brag about the two times he got a B and the time he got a C.  And before we get too excited about the A, let's remember that another governor who got an A one year was Florida's Charlie Crist.

Gingrich's remarks should surprise no one - he's never been a conse...

American Conservative - For those who were shocked by what Newt Gingrich said earlier this week, Jack Hunter reminds us the former Speaker was never a limited government conservative.

With no horse in the presidential race, conservatives seek to draft...

Boston Globe - Conservatives are growing impatient with the current crop of GOP presidential candidates, and rumors are growing louder of several "draft" movements in the works.  Among those prominently mentioned as potential draftees - Sen. Jim DeMint and Gov. Rick Perry.

Tea Party candidate knocks California Secretary of State out of race

Politico -- This congressional race was supposed to be a battle between two Democrats, in the first test of California's new "jungle primary," in which all candidates-regardless of party-run on the same primary ballot, with the top two vote-getters advancing to the special runoff.  But direct marketing entrepreneur Craig Huey was the surprise No. 2 vote-getter.  Now he faces Mission Impossible #2: winning in the July 12 special election in this overwhelmingly Democratic LA County district.

'We're here to stay,' say Tea Partiers in Kentucky

Times-Tribune - The Tea Party folks in Kentucky certainly are disappointed that their candidate, Phil Moffett, lost to the establishment candidate in the GOP gubernatorial primary.  But they did better than expected, being outspent 10 to 1.  "We are here to stay," says Mica Sims, head of the Tea Party in Lexington.

Tea Partiers want their man (or woman) to be just like 'Silent Cal'...

Politico - Freedom-lover Andrew Hemingway thinks Tea Partiers really want someone like 'Silent Cal' Coolidge to lead them. "Coolidge rolled back taxes, cut federal spending and retired much of the federal government's debt. He clung to a limited view of the Constitution's powers and held the liberty of the people to be the guiding star of his presidency."

Nevada Tea Partiers take debate matters into their own hands for op...

Las Vegas Sun - Nevada's strange 'free-for-all' style election for the House seat vacated by Sen. Dean Heller has inspired several local Tea Parties to organize their own debates in order to see for themselves who would best represent their district's conservative voters.

Brent Bozell hints a third party may be the key

CNS News - Conservative media critic Brent Bozell sees a complete lack of leadership from Republicans today on the issues of greatest national importance.  And if the party fails to nominate a principled conservative to get us out of this mess, he says, it may be time to form a conservative third party.

Sarah Palin insists 'I do have the fire in my belly' for presidenti...

Daily Caller - To those who doubt, Sarah Palin insists there's plenty of "fire in the belly" for a presidential run, but she's worried about family. After what she's been through, it's hard to blame her.

Alan W. Bock, RIP

Reason - We have so few principled defenders of liberty in the media, and he was one of the best. Jacob Sullum pays his respects.  Don't miss Alan Bock's eloquent statement, "There are plenty of things more important than politics."
