Americans have worked for generations to reject socialist agendas. The American Dream has been a beacon to those unfortunate people crushed under the weight of socialism.
Unfortunately, today we see a surge of sympathy for socialist ideas among American youth, including in health care. We need to roll back unnecessary government regulations to reinforce health care freedom and innovation, and remind all Americans that bottom-up solutions are more successful at creating prosperity for Americans than socialism ever could be.
Otherwise, the one-size-fits-all Public Option and Medicare for All plans will mean the end of personal options in our health care.
So, carolann, what does more government interference look like?
Socialistic Medicare for All will outlaw private health insurance, and the government-run Public Option would eventually put private health insurance out of business. Both would make Americans totally dependent on government bureaucrats for health care.
And, you know as well as I do that once a government program gets started, its costs skyrocket.
The rosy cost projections of the advocates of Medicare for All are no more truthful than the last time we heard, “if you like your insurance and your doctor, you can keep them.”
In fact, the center-left Urban Institute projected that Medicare for All would increase federal spending by $2.5 trillion (about $7,700 for each man, woman, and child in the US) annually. Federal tax collection would need to increase by an opportunity-crushing 70%. This will jeopardize the well-being and safety of all Americans.
Medicare for All would undoubtedly result in long wait times, meaning that lifesaving tests (like MRI and CAT scans) and quality-of-life care (like hip replacement) could be delayed for weeks or months. In other countries that have a similar system, we see troubling trends toward ration care.
