America the Beautiful

America the Beautiful In 1893 author and educator Katharine Lee Bates penned the following inspiring lyrics to one of America’s most beloved anthems:

 

O beautiful for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain, For purple mountain majesties, Above the fruited plain! America! America! God shed His grace on thee, And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea!

 

Nearly 130 years later, despite the many serious issues we face as a people and nation, America is still, at heart, beautiful. But as never before, America is also in great need of God’s mercy, guidance, and grace in these troubling times.

 

On this July 4th, as we celebrate our nation’s blessings of liberty and independence, let’s join the writer by turning one significant line of her song into a fervent prayer:

 

America! America! God shed His grace on thee . . .

 

Together let’s petition our heavenly Father to turn the collective heart of America back to faith and reverence so that we can continue to enjoy the heritage of liberty as “One Nation Under God.”

 

God bless you and yours today — and God Bless America.

On this day we celebrate the birth of our nation, when the signers of the Declaration of Independence pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to one another and declared the right to be free and independent states.  This new nation was founded on the assertion that “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.” Their glorious vision for liberty and democracy changed the world.

The Founders believed in a new style of government; one that gained power from the consent of the governed, not from a monarch or divinely appointed sovereign.  In the 246 years since our nation’s birth, our country has persevered through pivotal times in our history that have tested the ideals upon which our country was founded. And ​at times ​it has certainly felt tumultuous. It’s disturbing to me the principles of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence are ​currently under assault in our country. Many on the left argue that keep​ing our democracy ​means abolish​ing the Constitution and fundamentally transform​ing the principles that ​made this the freest nation the world has ever seen. They seem to forget it was the ideals of our founding principles that challenged generations before us to fight for opportunity and justice for all.

We must look no further than one of the most trying times in our nation’s history, when it was Frederick Douglass, an escaped slave and powerful orator that said, “the Constitution is a glorious liberty document” and that it should be “wielded in behalf of emancipation.” Our founding ideals challenge us still to continue to fight to ensure a brighter future for all Americans.

So, on this great day, let us celebrate the blessings of liberty that our founders pledged their lives for, and for which many generations have sacrificed so much.  Celebrate with your family and friends and ​reflect on the blessings that come with living in these United States of America.

John Adams, while writing about Independence Day declared “It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.”

Let’s make him proud. Happy Independence Day!

Today, millions of American patriots will gather together with friends and family to proudly celebrate the anniversary of our great nation.

In 1776, our Founders boldly embarked on a profound new vision: a constitutional republic dedicated to the belief that all men are created free and equal with rights endowed to us by our Creator.

And the cornerstone of that freedom? The guarantee and protection of religious liberty.

For more than two centuries, our nation has continued down this divine road to freedom.

However, with the rise of woke corporations, cancel culture and increasing threats to our religious freedom, we seem to be heading down the dark road to tyranny. We are starting to see our freedoms slowly stripped away, piece by piece.
